Future moonwalkers to wear flexible spacesuits by Axiom Space

Date:

Axiom Space, a Houston-based company, has been awarded a $228.5 million contract by NASA to design the next-generation spacesuits for the first moon landing in over half a century. The new suits will be sleeker, more flexible, and come in a wider range of sizes, providing greater protection for future moonwalkers.

Sleeker, More Flexible Spacesuits

The new spacesuits are designed to reflect heat and keep future moonwalkers cool. The white suits will resemble those used during NASA’s Apollo program over 50 years ago. The company plans to release new versions for training purposes for NASA later this summer.

At an event in Houston, Axiom employee Russell Ralston modeled a dark spacesuit, demonstrating its flexibility with squats and twisting at the waist. He clarified that the final version would be different, including the color.

More Protection for Harsh Environment

The new spacesuits will provide greater flexibility and more protection from the moon’s harsh environment. NASA is targeting late 2025 at the earliest to land two astronauts on the moon’s south pole. The suits will also come in a wider range of sizes to accommodate the varying needs of future moonwalkers.

The development of these new spacesuits is a significant step towards NASA’s goal. Axiom Space is a crucial partner in the mission and has been working on the suits for years. The company’s dedication and hard work have resulted in a product that is sleek, flexible, and will provide greater protection for future moonwalkers.

The new spacesuits designed by Axiom Space for NASA’s next moon landing mission are a significant technological advancement. They will be sleeker, more flexible, and provide greater protection from the harsh environment of the moon. The development of these suits is a crucial step towards NASA’s goal of exploring the possibilities of space.
