FIFA Ranking: Nigeria Dropped By Five Places Globally

Date:

According to the latest FIFA ranking that was announced on Thursday, April 6, 2023, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently rated 40th in the world and 6th in Africa.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, who didn’t advance to the most recent FIFA World Cup in 2022 and struggled to score just one goal in two AFCON qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau in March, fell five spots in the world rankings as a result of the most current FIFA rankings.

Nigeria was rated 35th globally in the FIFA ranking that was made public in December 2022. Due to a terrible run of games, they dropped to the 40th position after losing 14 points.

In their last five games, the Super Eagles have lost four times. They faced lowly Guinea-Bissau twice in AFCON qualifiers during the month of March’s international break. They were defeated 1-0 in Abuja in the first leg before triumphing 1-0 in Bissau in the return.

The three-time African champions are thought to have fallen in the rankings mostly as a result of the games’ results.

Nigeria plummeted to the sixth position, while Morocco, who excelled at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and overcame Brazil in a March international friendly, is currently ranked first in Africa and eleventh overall.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal are second in Africa and 18th in the world. While Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt are occupying third, fourth, and fifth in Africa, and 28th, 34th, and 35th in the world.
