Festi Figuil 2023: Honoring Cameroon’s Cultural Roots and Diversity

On April 1, in support of Cameroon’s cultural heritage, the Festi Figuil took place in the Northern Region. The festival, which was organized by the Department of Entertainment and Creative Industries, featured traditional dances, battles, exhibitions, and a fair.

Showcasing Guidar Culture and Guma Dance

The event was visited by Asta Djam Saoudi, the Director of Entertainment and Creative Industries at the Ministry of Arts and Culture. Other attendees included the mayor of Figil, Mana Messing, and various government officials.

The festival showcased the Guidar culture, their artistic achievements, and their famous traditional dance, the Guma. This dance is renowned for opening major national and international ceremonies. Festi Figuil was an opportunity for different cultures to come together and showcase their achievements, with communities speaking with one voice to support their artists. The event aimed to promote, disseminate, and preserve Cameroonian culture, and brought together different cultures to promote the values and ideals that the head of state stands for.

The festival also aimed to support local Cameroonian artists by providing a platform to stimulate their creative efforts. The Ministry of Arts and Culture developed a program to support artists. The mayor of the commune of Figuil, Mana Messingue  pledged his support for the arts in the region, recognizing the importance of promoting local artists.
