The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is promoting domestic tourism in Ghana through its “Experience Ghana, Share Ghana” campaign. The initiative is part of a broader effort to boost tourism revenues, create jobs, develop infrastructure and preserve the country’s culture.
Regional Tourist Visits
Over the past two weeks, the GTA has been visiting tourist sites across the country, starting with Aburi Gardens, Bunso Eco Park, and Akwamu Fie in the Eastern Region, and Shai Hills Resource Reserve in the Greater Accra Region. The team also visited Amedzofe Walkway, Mount Geme, Wli Waterfalls, and Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary in the Volta Region.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, the visits are aimed at highlighting the beauty of Ghana. He encourages Ghanaians to experience the country’s rich blend of tourist attractions and activities.
Positive Economic Impact
Promoting domestic tourism is an essential tool for increasing tourism revenues, creating job opportunities, developing infrastructure and preserve the country’s culture. In the long run, it will contribute to the country’s economic growth.
During the visits, the team stopped at various tourist attractions, including Aburi Botanical Gardens, where visitors can learn about the medicinal properties of plants and tree species in the garden. At Akwamu Fie Museum, the team learned about the rich history of Akwamu and the story of shifting alliances and conflicts between the Danes and the Akwamu people.
In the Volta Region, the team visited the Shai Hills Resource Reserve, where they observed fascinating animals, hiked and explored the Mogo cave, and visited the museum. They also had the Amedzofe Canopy Walkway experience and visited Mount Gemi. The team then visited the breathtaking Wli Waterfalls, the highest waterfall in West Africa, before heading to the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Cultural Village to experience the wild Mona monkeys.
