Ethio Telecom Launches “TeleCloud AI” Platform Offering Low-Cost AI Tools for SMEs

Date:

Ethio Telecom has officially launched TeleCloud AI, a new cloud-based platform specifically designed to deliver a range of essential AI-powered tools for the nation’s burgeoning small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The platform offers immediate access to critical services, including automated customer service bots, advanced inventory forecasting, insightful digital payments analytics, and crucial Amharic natural-language processing (NLP) services. This marks a major step in localizing advanced technology for Ethiopian businesses.

The TeleCloud AI platform is the result of a strategic partnership between Ethio Telecom, Huawei Cloud, and the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology. A key feature of the offering is its pricing structure: services are billed exclusively in Ethiopian Birr, making Ethiopia one of the first African nations to offer locally-priced, enterprise-grade AI tools, effectively eliminating the barrier of expensive foreign currency payments. To further spur local innovation, the platform provides startups with free development credits and direct access to a sandbox environment for building highly localized applications.

Government officials believe that TeleCloud AI will be instrumental in accelerating the digital transformation across pivotal sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, retail, and fintech. By offering affordable, localized AI solutions, the platform significantly reduces dependency on costly foreign cloud providers, driving both technological self-reliance and national economic growth.
