Egypt’s Vision to Become a Global Hub for Outsourcing and Technology Innovation

Egypt is positioning itself as a global leader in outsourcing and technology innovation, spearheading initiatives to grow the industry, nurture tech talent, and enhance its competitiveness on the international stage. This vision was highlighted by Ahmed Elzaher, CEO of Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), during the Cairo ICT 2024 event.

A Thriving Outsourcing Sector

Elzaher revealed that Egypt’s digital exports surged by 26.5% from $4.9 billion in 2022 to $6.2 billion in 2023. The outsourcing sector also experienced significant growth, with exports rising from $2.4 billion in 2022 to $3.7 billion in 2023.

He attributed this success to Egypt’s unique value proposition, which includes:

  • A highly skilled, multilingual, and cost-effective workforce.
  • A strategic location connecting global markets.
  • Investments in technology and digital transformation.

The government aims to increase outsourcing sector exports to $9 billion by 2026, emphasizing Egypt’s role as one of the most competitive outsourcing destinations globally.

Comprehensive Support for Startups and Entrepreneurs

Egypt’s commitment to innovation extends to fostering entrepreneurship. ITIDA plays a pivotal role in supporting startups through initiatives such as:

  • Engaging students and promoting entrepreneurial mindsets.
  • Global partnerships with companies like 500 Global and Plug and Play.
  • Networking opportunities with investors and streamlined regulatory processes.

Programs like the “Start IT” incubator and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (TIEC) empower startups at every stage of their journey, solidifying Egypt’s reputation as a burgeoning startup hub.

Highlights from Cairo ICT 2024

The 28th edition of Cairo ICT showcased Egypt’s advancements in 5G technology, AI-powered solutions, blockchain innovations, and satellite communications. Key initiatives included:

  1. Export IT Programme: Enhancing Egypt’s ICT exports.
  2. ITAC Initiative: Promoting industry-academia collaboration.
  3. Egypt Makes Electronics (EME): Strengthening the electronics sector as a driver of economic growth.

On the event’s final day, ITIDA emphasized its focus on expanding digital signature services to improve business efficiency and digital service quality for citizens and government entities.

The Road Ahead

With over 175 companies operating 195 outsourcing centers and employing more than 145,000 specialists, Egypt continues to attract global investments. These centers provide diverse services, including contact services, programming, and semiconductor software development.

By fostering a robust ecosystem for startups and delivering cutting-edge technological advancements, Egypt is on track to become a global leader in outsourcing and digital innovation.
