Egypt eyes global logistics hub in Suez Canal Economic Zone

Date:

Egypt is studying a proposal to establish a global logistics distribution hub in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s position as a regional and international center for trade, logistics services, and supply chains.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government has ambitious plans to continue attracting investment to the Suez Canal Economic Zone and localize strategic projects within the area, including a proposed global logistics distribution center.

During a meeting held on Monday, Madbouly said several international companies have already submitted offers for the project, adding that work is underway to achieve this important target.

The Prime Minister directed officials to cooperate with serious companies and finalize agreements that support the project’s positive objectives.

He also stressed the need to establish clear governance rules for these activities, while developing an integrated plan to promote Egypt as a regional redistribution hub. This, he said, would help attract global companies to establish international logistics distribution centers across different development zones.

The meeting reviewed offers submitted by several companies to establish global logistics distribution centers for various goods and commodities.

Officials also discussed the ongoing review of these offers, in coordination between the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, and other relevant authorities, as well as requests submitted by several entities to accelerate the implementation of the major project.

The project offers Egypt a strategic opportunity to strengthen its role as a regional hub for trade management and distribution, supported by its unique geographic location and major investments in ports, infrastructure, transport networks, and logistics services.

It would also support the transformation of the Suez Canal Economic Zone into a key hub for transit trade and redistribution at both regional and international levels. The project is expected to generate indirect economic benefits, including increased port activity, higher demand for logistics services, stronger supply chains, and greater foreign currency revenues through storage, handling, and redistribution activities.
