Egypt: Envision Joins AMEA Power’s 500-MW Amunet II Wind Project

Date:

China’s Envision Energy has signed an agreement with UAE-based renewables developer AMEA Power for the 500-MW Amunet II wind project in Egypt, the companies said on friday.

The project will be AMEA Power’s second utility-scale wind farm in Egypt and will bring its total wind generation portfolio in the country to 1 GW upon completion.

The agreement was announced at the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town. No details were disclosed.

Amunet II follows the commissioning in June 2025 of the 500-MW Amunet I wind farm in Ras Ghareb, which was developed by AMEA Power in collaboration with the Chinese turbine maker.

The first Amunet is currently Africa’s largest wind farm.

AMEA Power is no stranger to large-scale projects in Egypt. The company also operates the 500-MW Abydos solar farm in Aswan Governorate, later paired with a 300-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

Construction is also well under way at its 1,000-MW solar farm with a 600-MWh BESS in the Benban area of Aswan.
