The National Academic Drama Theatre. Lesi Ukrainka together with the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre announce the first International Creative Residence «START» for directors from Ukraine and Lithuania, which will be held from 15 May to 28 May 2023 (Kiev).

“START” is a joint project of two National Theatres, a creative residence where young directors of Ukraine and Lithuania will meet. Within the framework of the residence, participants will embody their creative ideas and on the results of the project will have the opportunity to make a performance in the National Theatre. (Ukrainian director in Vilnius, Lithuanian – in Kiev).
The purpose of the creative residence is to find a young director.
During the first stage the directors will be selected according to the sent description of the future works. The application must contain a general description of the idea, concept and scenography. Time of the play – 40-60 minutes.
There are no restrictions on the genre, drama, style and creative implementation of the play. Directors can be submitted to a team of no more than three people (composer, scenographer, etc.). Previous directorial experience will not affect the final selection.
The application form must be completed in English. For participants from Ukraine, the application must be duplicated in Ukrainian.
Works already performed on other stages are not accepted to participate in the competition.
The deadline for online applications is March 12, 2023.
The second stage – pitching works in an online format.
During the second stage, theatre representatives will contact future participants to discuss the concept, the implementation plan and the modalities in more detail.
Remote meetings are scheduled from 1 to 14 April 2023.
According to the results of the second stage, 3 Ukrainian and 3 Lithuanian directors will be selected.
