China to Launch K-Visa for Global Talent as US Imposes New H-1B Fee

Date:

China is set to roll out a new K-Visa on October 1, specifically designed to attract young professionals in the science and technology sectors from around the world. This strategic move comes as the United States imposes a new, one-time $100,000 fee for each H-1B visa application, a significant measure that is expected to heavily impact the flow of international talent.

The H-1B visa program is dominated by Indian professionals, who account for nearly 71% of the visas, followed by Chinese professionals at 11.7%. Despite the direct contrast between the two policies, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, refrained from commenting on the US visa policy, stating, “We have no comment on the US’s visa policy.”

However, he simultaneously extended an open invitation to international workers, underscoring that the cross-border flow of talent is crucial for global technological and economic advancement. China’s new K-Visa is seen as a timely and deliberate effort to capitalize on the new barriers in the US, positioning itself as an attractive destination for top-tier professionals seeking opportunities.

This development highlights a growing competition for skilled labor and underscores a strategic divergence in approaches to global talent mobility between the world’s two largest economies.
