BRICS Summit Concludes in Kazan with Outreach to Non-Member Nations

The 2024 BRICS summit is wrapping up in the southwestern Russian city of Kazan, with the spotlight on a key meeting under the BRICS Outreach/Plus format.

This session involves nations outside the economic bloc aiming to bolster relations with the BRICS members.

According to the BRICS organizing committee, 36 countries are participating in the meeting, 22 of them represented by their heads of state.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is among the prominent attendees.

The summit has attracted leaders from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, along with delegates from several international organizations. President Vladimir Putin is leading the Russian delegation.

Throughout the day, President Putin has scheduled various bilateral meetings, including discussions with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

To wrap up the three-day summit, he is set to hold a press conference on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the BRICS leaders formally adopted the “Kazan Summit Declaration,” which outlines the key outcomes of the summit and marks the conclusion of Russia’s term as the chair of BRICS.
