The BRICS Astronomy Meeting 2025 is scheduled to take place in São José dos Campos, Brazil, from October 13 to 17, hosted by the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). The conference, held under the theme ‘Multi-messenger and Multi-wavelength Transients’, gathers researchers, educators, policymakers, and industry professionals from the expanded BRICS Plus intergovernmental organization, which now includes new members like Ethiopia, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. The goal is to strengthen global collaboration in astronomy and space science, sharing the latest research results and best practices across the Global South.
The five-day programme is structured around core collaborative initiatives. Highlights include a two-day scientific workshop aimed at fostering joint research, a technical Virtual Observatory training session on October 15 to build capacity among young scientists in astronomical data analysis, and a showcase of the BRICS Intelligent Telescope and Data Network. The working group meeting on October 15 will be crucial for drafting resolutions and reinforcing the vision for deepening scientific cooperation among member states.The conference also features a strong societal focus, with public outreach activities from October 13 to 15 designed to bring astronomy to local schools and the general public through interactive exhibits and talks. Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Luciana Santos, will open the conference, emphasizing the country’s commitment to international scientific cooperation. The final day of the conference will focus on space weather and heliophysics, exploring the dynamic interactions between the Sun and Earth’s environment.
