Bayer, the multinational corporation focused on medico-biological sciences in the fields of health and nutrition, has announced its investment of €60 million in its corn seed plant in Pochuyky, located in the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine. The company has stated that this investment reflects its commitment to Ukraine and strengthens its crop business in the country, which will contribute to the economic recovery of the region.
Strengthening Crop Business and Safety Measures
The investment will involve the construction of a new seed dryer, state-of-the-art agricultural field equipment, storage facilities, and the building of two bomb shelters to ensure the safety of the Ukrainian colleagues who operate the facility. These investments will be made despite the difficult conditions under which the project is being implemented.
Matthias Berninger, Head of Public Affairs, Science, and Sustainability at Bayer, stated that the investment reflects the critical importance of Ukraine in the global food supply chain. Berninger also emphasized that the company stands with Ukraine and is committed to supporting the country and its people, particularly those within the farming communities. “We will do everything we can to support Ukraine’s recovery plan and protect the food security of the region and the world,” Berninger said.
Contributing to Economic Recovery
Bayer has been active in Ukraine for many years, and in previous years the company invested approximately €200 million in corn seed production and a seed processing plant in Pochuyky. The company’s continued investment in the region highlights its commitment to Ukraine’s future and to its people, particularly its farming communities.
The company’s investment will contribute significantly to Ukraine’s economic recovery plan. By investing in the country’s crop business, Bayer is supporting food security in the region and around the world.
Bayer’s investment will help ensure food security in the region and globally while providing opportunities for growth in the farming communities of Ukraine.
