Cameroon’s Flavien Boyomo Backs Ademola Lookman for African Player of the Year

Date:

Cameroon international Flavien Enzo Boyomo has expressed confidence that Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman will clinch the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award. The Atalanta forward has been shortlisted for the prestigious accolade alongside Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast/Brighton & Hove Albion), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns).

Boyomo believes Lookman’s exceptional performances for both club and country make him the leading contender for the title. Notably, Lookman is the only African nominee for the Ballon d’Or this year, further cementing his position as a frontrunner for the CAF award.

A Stellar Season for Lookman Lookman’s 2023–2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary:

  • Scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances for Atalanta.
  • Earned Atalanta’s Player of the Year award.
  • Named Player of the Match in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.

On the international stage, Lookman was instrumental in Nigeria’s campaign to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final. He scored three goals in seven matches and earned a spot in the official Team of the Tournament.

Support from Boyomo In a recent interview with Actu Cameroon, Osasuna center-back Boyomo said:
“I believe Lookman will win the African Ballon d’Or. He won the Europa League and has the best chance of winning the trophy this year.”
