New “Garden of Divine Songs” Stamp Block Unveiled to Honor Hryhoriy Skovoroda’s 300th Anniversary

Date:

In a special ceremony held across three locations—New York, Skovorodynivka, and Kyiv—Ukrposhta, Ukraine’s national postal service, unveiled a commemorative stamp block in honour of Hryhoriy Skovoroda, one of Ukraine’s greatest philosophers, marking the 300th anniversary of his birth.

The newly issued “Garden of Divine Songs” stamp block features a design created by Ukrainian graphic artists Oleksandr and Serhiy Haruky.

The stamp’s release is part of a broader effort to raise awareness and funds for the restoration of the National Literary and Memorial Museum dedicated to Skovoroda, which was severely damaged by a Russian missile strike in May 2022.

A Charitable Cause Behind the Release

In addition to honouring Skovoroda’s legacy, Ukrposhta has turned this release into a charitable initiative. For every stamp block sold, 15 hryvnias (approximately 40 cents) will be allocated toward the museum’s restoration.

With a total print run of 500,000 blocks, Ukrposhta aims to raise 7.5 million hryvnias to help rebuild the museum, which is located in Skovorodynivka, Kharkiv Region, where the philosopher spent his final years.

Each postal block is priced at 75 hryvnias, and the funds raised will be used to repair the damage caused by the Russian attack, ensuring that future generations can continue to learn about Skovoroda’s contributions to Ukrainian culture and philosophy.

Ukrposhta’s Commitment to Skovoroda’s Legacy

This stamp release represents more than just a commemorative issue; it serves as a powerful symbol of Ukrainian resilience and dedication to preserving cultural heritage despite the ongoing conflict.

The collaboration between Ukrposhta and the design team behind this issue underscores the importance of art and history in times of adversity.
