Iran Continues to Emphasize Handicrafts and Traditional Arts at Sarv-e Simin Festival

Date:

Iran continues its strategic focus on promoting its rich cultural heritage and traditional arts, highlighted by major events such as the upcoming 9th International Fajr Festival of Handicrafts (Sarv-e Simin). The festival is scheduled to take place in Tehran from February 20 to 24, 2025, under the theme of “Cultural Diversity and Convergence.” This prestigious annual event is key to showcasing the finest creations by master artisans and renowned designers, reinforcing the national emphasis on cultural heritage and craft innovation.

The primary goal of the festival is to serve as a platform for the competitive display of high-quality, valuable handicrafts. It promotes skills passed down through centuries while simultaneously seeking to inspire future generations to embrace these time-honored practices. The festival plays a critical role in Iran’s efforts to diversify its economy by boosting its heritage and tourism sectors. According to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Iran’s annual handicraft exports currently stand at about $250 million, with an additional $250 million in informal exports.

By actively engaging in cultural diplomacy through international events like Sarv-e Simin, which features works from both Iranian and international artisans, Iran strengthens its soft power globally. The event’s success in attracting thousands of submissions and international participants underscores the global market potential of Iranian craftsmanship, supporting new economic opportunities for local artisans.
