Egypt’s Parliamentary Elections Begin Abroad, Monitored in 117 Countries 🇪🇬

Date:

The National Elections Authority (NEA) has announced that the electoral processes for Egyptians residing abroad are underway and being closely monitored across 117 countries. This marks the opening of the first phase of the 2025 House of Representatives (Parliamentary) elections for expatriate citizens. Voting for the diaspora is scheduled to take place on November 7 and 8, 2025, running across Egyptian embassies and consulates worldwide, with the first polling stations opening in countries with early time zones, such as New Zealand.

The logistical scale of this operation underscores the global reach of Egypt’s election process and the government’s commitment to ensuring the participation of its vast diaspora. Full and continuous coordination is being maintained between the NEA’s central operations room and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has established its own 24-hour operations room to facilitate voting. Polling stations in diplomatic missions are connected to the NEA’s system, allowing citizens to access the voter database by providing their 14-digit national ID number. This voting phase for expatriates precedes the domestic voting for the first phase, which is scheduled for November 10 and 11, 2025, and covers 14 governorates, including Giza, Alexandria, and Luxor. The overall parliamentary election process involves two phases to cover all 27 governorates, with the entire process, including runoffs, scheduled to conclude by late December. The active participation of the diaspora is seen as a key reflection of national belonging and political engagement.
