Aadhaar Updates Go Fully Digital Today, Making Name, Address Changes Faster and Easier

Date:

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out a sweeping set of reforms to its update process, effective today, November 1, 2025, making it significantly faster and easier to correct or change key Aadhaar details. Aadhaar holders can now initiate updates for demographic information, including name, address, date of birth, and mobile number, entirely online through the myAadhaar portal, largely eliminating the need for physical visits to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

The new online process boosts efficiency and data accuracy by enabling automatic verification of submitted details against linked government databases such as PAN, passport, and driving licenses, thus reducing manual paperwork. Furthermore, the reforms simplify the e-KYC process for financial institutions, allowing users to verify their identity via Aadhaar OTP verification, video KYC, or a secure QR code, which is essential for seamless access to banking and other financial services. These updates are a major step within India’s ‘Digital India’ framework, aiming to make the digital identity system more secure and citizen-centric. While biometric updates (fingerprints, iris, photo) still require an in-person visit for verification, the new rules simplify fees and offer free biometric updates for children at key age intervals, ensuring data integrity while enhancing accessibility nationwide.
