ISRO Confirms Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight Mission is 90% Complete

Date:

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that the ambitious Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission is now 90% complete, marking a major milestone in India’s quest to send astronauts into low Earth orbit. This near-completion status underscores the rapid progress achieved in developing the necessary indigenous technology and infrastructure for the crewed orbital flight. The mission, a key component of India’s long-term space strategy, aims to demonstrate the nation’s capability for human space exploration.

Final test preparations for the mission are scheduled to begin in late 2026, paving the way for the eagerly anticipated launch by 2027. This timeline positions India to become one of only a few countries capable of independently conducting human space missions. The remaining work involves integrating and validating the critical life support systems, crew escape mechanisms, and ensuring the reliability of the Gaganyaan spacecraft and its launch vehicle, the Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3).

The mission is expected to elevate India’s status in the global space community and act as a powerful catalyst for national technological innovation and capacity building. ISRO’s steady progress demonstrates its commitment to achieving this complex and strategic goal, reinforcing the country’s position as a leader in space technology among emerging economies.
