Super Typhoon Ragasa Strikes Southern China, Halting Major Cities

Date:

Super Typhoon Ragasa has made landfall in southern China, prompting widespread closures and emergency measures across at least 10 major cities, including the technology hub of Shenzhen

The powerful storm, with sustained winds reaching 215 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 295 km/h, forced the suspension of schools, businesses, and public transportation. Authorities issued urgent warnings, advising residents to stay indoors, while in flood-prone areas of Shenzhen, a precautionary evacuation of nearly 400,000 people was scheduled.

The city’s main airport announced a complete halt to its operations as a safety measure. Prior to hitting China, the typhoon had already caused significant disruption in the Philippines and Taiwan. As of now, there are no confirmed reports of casualties, but emergency response teams throughout the region remain on high alert as the storm continues to move.

The swift and decisive actions by local authorities underscore the region’s commitment to prioritizing public safety and minimizing the potential impact of one of the strongest storms to hit the area in recent years.
