Russia Sees Growing Interest in Learning Hindi as Government Expands Language Programs

Date:

In a shift reflecting deeper cultural and educational ties between Russia and India, there is a rising interest among Russian students to learn Hindi. This is part of a broader initiative by the Russian government to boost linguistic skills relevant to the rapidly growing influence of India on the global stage.

Konstantin Mogilevsky, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, emphasized the importance of learning Hindi, pointing out India’s demographic strength and the increasing use of Hindi by Indians in their daily lives. The Russian government has responded to this demand by increasing the number of institutions offering Hindi language courses. Mogilevsky remarked, “We want more of our students to learn Hindi,” highlighting the language’s growing relevance as India continues to rise as a global power.

The increased focus on Hindi language education comes three decades after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and reflects Russia’s broader pivot towards strengthening its ties with India. As Russia looks to diversify its international partnerships, expanding knowledge of Hindi is seen as a crucial step in fostering deeper bilateral relations and understanding between the two nations.
