NAFDAC Raids Warehouse in Okota, Lagos, Uncovering Expired and Unregistered Products

Date:

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action to protect public health by raiding a warehouse in Oke-Afa, Okota, Lagos. The facility was found stocked with unregistered and expired products, raising serious concerns about consumer safety, especially with the festive season fast approaching.

What Happened at the Okota Warehouse?

Acting on intelligence, a NAFDAC team uncovered a disturbing operation in Okota. The operators of the warehouse were caught offloading a 20-foot container filled with unregistered carbonated drinks. Upon further inspection, over 14 rooms were discovered packed with expired and unregistered products.

Even more alarming was the unhygienic storage conditions—some items were contaminated by rats, making them unfit for consumption.

NAFDAC’s Swift Action

NAFDAC has taken the following measures to address the situation:

  • Facility Shutdown: The warehouse has been sealed, and all operations have been suspended pending further investigations.
  • Management Investigation: The warehouse operators have been invited to provide sourcing evidence, including the Global Listing for Supermarket Items (GLSI) certificate.

A Call for Vigilance

NAFDAC warns the public about the risks posed by consuming unregulated products. As the festive season approaches, consumers are urged to:

  1. Verify product authenticity before purchase.
  2. Avoid buying items with tampered packaging or questionable sources.
  3. Report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Protecting Public Health

This operation underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining stringent standards for food and drug products in Nigeria. Consumers are reminded to remain vigilant and support regulatory efforts by reporting any concerns.
