Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on an official visit to Argentina.

Date:

Buenos Aires, November 20 (Brics24) – “The relationship between Italy and Argentina holds immense untapped potential. Argentina is Italy’s key reference point in Latin America.” These were the words of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a joint press conference with Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires.

Meloni outlined three main pillars for collaboration between the two countries:

1️⃣ Political Cooperation: “We have agreed to develop an Italy-Argentina Action Plan for 2025-2030, identifying key areas of bilateral collaboration to focus our efforts and resources,” Meloni stated.

2️⃣ Fighting Organized Crime: Both nations are committed to strengthening their efforts against drug trafficking, corruption, money laundering, human trafficking, and criminal infiltration into economic and social systems. Meloni emphasized Italy’s leadership in this field, citing innovative investigative methods pioneered by Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. “Italy plays a leading role in the European initiative Il Pacto 2.0 and the Falcone-Borsellino program, dedicated to training judges and law enforcement officials to combat illegal activities.”

3️⃣ Economic and Commercial Relations: “Over 300 Italian companies operate in Argentina, generating nearly €3 billion in revenue and employing more than 16,000 workers. The market liberalization and investment support policies championed by President Milei offer new opportunities to strengthen Italian presence,” Meloni noted. She also highlighted plans to enhance collaboration in strategic sectors such as energy transition, infrastructure, critical raw materials, aviation, and space.

This visit marks a significant step in bolstering ties between Italy and Argentina, paving the way for enhanced cooperation across various domains.
