Cameroonian Activist Christelle Bay Nfor Honored for Women Empowerment Initiatives

Date:

Social worker and women’s rights activist Christelle Bay Nfor was recently honored in London, United Kingdom, for her remarkable work in women empowerment. The prestigious award was presented to her during a high-profile event at the Palace of Westminster, House of Lords, on July 14, 2023. The recognition came as a result of the Advisory Board’s recommendation and under the authorization of the Board of Trustees of the African Achievers Award.

Dedicated Advocate for Gender Equality

During the award ceremony, Christelle Bay Nfor, the founder and Executive Director of Hope for the Needy Association (HOFNA) in Cameroon, expressed her gratitude and dedicated the award to those who actively contribute to ending gender-based violence and other forms of oppression. She acknowledged the support of her team at HOFNA and the countless women and girls she has had the privilege to work with throughout her career. Additionally, she recognized her mentors and partners who have played a vital role in nurturing her achievements and supporting their initiatives.

Christelle Bay Nfor shared her personal journey at the House of Lords. Also she recounted the challenges she faced growing up in Cameroon. Despite facing adversity, she remained determined to improve herself and make a difference. Coming from a modest background with parents who did not possess extensive academic qualifications, and being a single mother, she drew motivation and inspiration from these experiences. This led her to dedicate her efforts to empowering women through the establishment of Hope for the Needy Association.

Empowering Women and Girls through HOFNA

At the core of HOFNA’s mission, Christelle Bay Nfor aims to bring about positive change in communities by empowering women and girls to become self-reliant, self-aware, and socially conscious individuals who recognize their own worth and potential. HOFNA implements programs that encourage teenage girls to stay in school. These programs focus on building self-esteem, teaching income-generating skills.

The African Achievers Awards, founded in 2011, is an annual ceremony that celebrates individuals and organizations making significant contributions to the growth and development of the continent. The awards honor notable Africans across various industries and sectors. Previous recipients include influential figures like Archbishop Desmond Tutu. This year, alongside Christelle Bay Nfor, other outstanding Cameroonians were recognized for their contributions. The event aims to reach Africans in the diaspora and continues to highlight the achievements of individuals dedicated to shaping a better Africa.

Overall, Christelle Bay Nfor’s recognition and her work with Hope for the Needy Association serve as an inspiration for women and girls across Africa.
