India Corner Launches in Cameroon, Yaounde

On May 5, 2023, the High Commissioner of India to Cameroon, H.E Anindya Banerjee, inaugurated the “India Corner” at the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM) headquarters in Yaounde. The space will provide information about the health, education, and tourist opportunities available in India.

Launch Ceremony Details

The launch ceremony was held at the newsroom of the Cameroon Tribune, the National Bilingual Daily Newspaper, and was attended by SOPECAM General Manager Marie-Claire Nnana, Deputy General Manager Shey Peter Mabu, and D. C. Dangwal, Head of Chancery at the India High Commission. H.E Anindya Banerjee highlighted the importance of the “India Corner” in promoting India’s offerings to Cameroonians.

India’s Medical System, Education, and Tourist Sites

The “India Corner” includes books with information about India and its various opportunities. The High Commissioner stated that India’s medical system is affordable and offers good quality care, which can benefit Cameroonians. He also emphasized the attractiveness of India’s higher education, which is currently hosting many African students. In addition, India has numerous tourist sites that are among the world’s wonders, such as the Taj Mahal, a mausoleum made of white marble in Agra, built between 1631 and 1648. The Taj Mahal is known for its architectural beauty and is a universally-admired masterpiece of UNESCO world heritage.

Promoting India-Cameroon Relations

The opening of the “India Corner” at SOPECAM is a great initiative to promote relations between India and Cameroon. It offers a platform for Cameroonians to learn more about India and its culture, which can contribute to strengthening the bonds between the two countries.
