University Theatre Encounters: Creating Opportunities for Artists

Date:

Since its establishment in 2013, the University Theatre Encounters (RETU) has been training students from the University of Yaoundé I in various stage professions, including acting, directing, lighting, set and costume designing, sound engineering, and more. The initiative has been hugely successful in nurturing talents and creating opportunities for young artists to showcase their skills on both local and international stages.

Celebrating a Decade of Success

This year marks the 10th anniversary of RETU, and to commemorate the occasion, the initiative is hosting a performance titled “The Tin Solstice” on April 15th at the French Institute of Yaoundé. The event has generated much buzz on social media, with  students in the performing arts and film course at the University of Yaoundé I snapping up tickets. RETU’s reputation for producing quality shows has made it a must-attend event for theatre enthusiasts and anyone looking to support emerging talents in the arts.

Empowering Young Artists

RETU’s mission is to empower young artists by providing them with the necessary skills and resources to succeed in the industry. Through its partnership with the French Institute of Yaoundé, the initiative has been able to offer students exposure to international industry professionals. This has helped to elevate the quality of performances and prepare students for the competitive world of theatre.

Enhancing Cultural Awareness

In addition to its focus on skills development, RETU also seeks to enhance the individual culture of students by exposing them to various forms of art. The initiative organizes major stage performances, including theatre, standup, performance art, dance, body art, and public speaking, that serve to broaden the students’ horizons and deepen their appreciation for the arts. By nurturing talents and promoting cultural awareness, RETU is playing a critical role in shaping the future of the arts in Cameroon.

University Theatre Encounters has been making a positive impact on the lives of young artists in Cameroon, empowering young people to pursue their passions. RETU’s 10th-anniversary performance is a celebration of its achievements and a showcase of the talents that it has helped to nurture.
