Tanzania Prepares for VAR Rollout with FIFA-Led Training

Date:

Tanzania is gearing up to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in football matches starting next season. This initiative, spearheaded by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) with FIFA’s backing, promises to enhance match officiating across the country.

During a two-day workshop held in Dar es Salaam, FIFA experts trained local officials on operating the VAR system. The workshop marked a critical milestone toward implementing this advanced technology in Tanzanian football.

The Training Process and Implementation Timeline

TFF’s Second Vice-President, Steven Mnguto, clarified that VAR will not be implemented immediately. The rollout will follow a structured process, including comprehensive training for officials and final approval from FIFA experts.

“Introducing VAR is a step-by-step process. Training must be completed, and FIFA must assess and approve our readiness,” Mnguto explained.

While there is no fixed date for the VAR’s debut, its implementation depends on how quickly local officials demonstrate their competence with the system.

The Impact of VAR on Tanzanian Football

The adoption of VAR is expected to revolutionize refereeing in Tanzania. While it won’t eliminate all controversies, it will significantly reduce human errors during matches.

“This is a positive step forward,” said Mnguto. “VAR will address numerous officiating challenges and enhance the integrity of our matches.”

Sports enthusiasts are encouraged to embrace this development, as it aligns Tanzanian football with global standards, paving the way for more transparent and accurate match decisions.

FIFA’s Role in the Initiative

FIFA’s involvement underscores the importance of VAR in modern football. By providing expertise and training, FIFA ensures that Tanzania’s officials are well-prepared to handle the challenges and opportunities VAR presents.

This development represents a pivotal moment in Tanzanian football, showcasing the country’s commitment to advancing its sports infrastructure and maintaining the integrity of the game.
