Top Five Records Davido Set With His Fourth Album ‘Timeless’

On the 31st of March 2023, one of Africa’s greatest Afrobeats stars, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido released his fourth album ‘Timeless.’ Since its release, the album has broken and set numerous records on all major streaming platforms.

After the loss of his son in October, Davido took a bereavement leave from social media and music. His silence was hugely felt among his fans. After six months, he came back like he never left – releasing what is now, probably, the best Afrobeats album in the last decade; breaking every record out there.

Before its release, ‘Timeless’ became the highest number of album pre-orders by an African artist, surpassing Burna Boy’s ‘Twice as Tall’ album. The album also set the record for the most streams in a single day by an African artist, with over 50 million streams on various music platforms, surpassing Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos.’

1. Apple Music UK Top Albums Record – ‘Timeless’ debuted at number one on the Apple Music Top Albums chart in the United Kingdom, making it only the second afrobeats album to do so.

2. Boomplay Album Record – ‘Timeless’ became Boomplay’s fastest album to reach 10 million streams. The album hit 10 million streams on April 1, 2023, and it also holds the record for the fastest album to surpass 1 million streams in less than 24 hours after its debut.

3. Apple Music Top Songs Chart Record – “Timeless” made history by debuting all of its songs in the top 100 of the UK’s Apple Music top songs chart. Davido also made history by becoming the first afrobeats artist to have 10 singles debut in the top 200 on the US Apple Music Top Songs list.

4. Spotify Nigeria Chart – On the Spotify Nigeria chart, Davido occupied athe top 16 spots for the most first-day streams for a song. On the first day of tracking, ‘Over Dem’ ranked top with almost 460,000 streams.

4. On Spotify – On the first full day of tracking, 8.4 million streams of “Timeless” were recorded on Spotify. It became the first African album to record that many streams on the first day of release with this total number of streams.

Additional records that Davido set with “Timeless” include the most Shazamed album by an African artist, the most entries on the Billboard Global 200 chart, and the most YouTube views for an African artist’s album trailer.
