South Africa to Host Third G20 Research and Innovation Working Group and Ministerial Meetings

The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) will host the third G20 Research and Innovation Working Group (RIWG) meeting from 21–22 September 2025, followed by the G20 Research and Innovation Ministerial Meeting on 23 September 2025 in Pretoria, where the Tshwane Declaration will be adopted.

  • Theme: “Science, technology and innovation for solidarity, equality and sustainability.”
  • The RIWG meetings will review progress from previous sessions (Feb, Apr, May 2025) and prepare for the Ministerial Meeting.
  • The meetings bring together G20 member states, guest countries, multilateral organisations, and global science partners to advance inclusive and sustainable innovation.

Chief Science Advisers’ Roundtable (CSAR):

  • 21 September 2025: Closed morning session; 15:00–17:00 open knowledge-sharing meeting at CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria.

Site Visits (24 September 2025):

  • Square Kilometre Array (SKA), Northern Cape
  • Maropeng Cradle of Humankind, Magaliesberg
