Saudi Arabia: Indian national killed in missile strike in Al-Kharj? Embassy in Riyadh says ‘a matter of relief, no Indian fatality’

Date:

The Indian embassy in Riyadh on Monday said that no Indian national was killed in the missile strike that hit a residential compound in Al Kharj city in Saudi Arabia. The mission confirmed that one Indian national was injured in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

In a post on X, the embassy said it was “a matter of relief that there has been no Indian fatality in the unfortunate incident at Al Kharj yesterday evening.” The embassy added that it has been in touch with Saudi authorities and is closely monitoring the situation.

Counsellor (Community Welfare) Y Sabir visited Al Kharj late on Sunday and met the injured Indian national involved in the incident. Officials said the injured person is receiving treatment and the embassy is extending all necessary support.

Earlier reports had suggested that an Indian national was among two people killed after a projectile struck a residential location belonging to a maintenance and cleaning company in Al Kharj Governorate. However, the Indian embassy clarified that no Indian citizen died in the incident.

Foreign nationals killed

According to the General Directorate of Saudi Civil Defense, two foreign nationals were killed in the strike, while 12 Bangladeshi residents were injured. The projectile also caused material damage to the residential compound.

In its statement, the Civil Defense said it responded to the fall of a military projectile at the residential location and noted that attacks on civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law.
