French fashion brand Sandro has teamed up with designer and artist Louis Barthélemy for a new collection inspired by Moroccan culture. Evelein’s goal was to create a collection in the spirit of contemporary frescoes, while Louis envisioned vivid graphics inspired by scenes of Moroccan life.
The 11-piece capsule collection features a range of ready-to-wear items and accessories, including silk shirts, T-shirts, scarves, shorts, and trousers, as well as two Kasbah bags, one of which is hand-embroidered. The capsule is completed by a natural straw and leather bucket bag made by the Doum for Women cooperative, which empowers women in rural communities in Morocco and preserves the art of basketry.
Celebrating Moroccan Culture
The Sandro x Louis Barthélemy capsule collection aims to celebrate the unique culture and crafts of Morocco. Sandro’s founder and artistic director, Évelyne Chetrite explained: “I was born in a country where handicrafts are very present, where colours have a special importance, and materials too. This collection is dear to my heart because it celebrates my roots and highlights the unique know-how of Moroccan women. It creates a dialogue between cultures. Sandro always wants to celebrate the qualities and values that are unique to this dear country.”
Vibrant Graphics
Louis Barthélemy’s vivid graphics bring Moroccan scenes to life on materials. Inspired by Mohamed Ben Ali R’bati, considered the first modern painter of Morocco, the graphics feature on shirts, tee-shirts, scarves, shorts, and pants. The Sandro x Louis Barthélemy capsule collection is available now.
Louis Barthelemy, an artist who has spent time in Paris, Egypt and Morocco, is deeply committed to preserving and reviving traditional crafts in his work. The two artists are united by their mutual love of Morocco and their close connection to its crafts.
Overall, the collection creates a dialogue between cultures and represents a beautiful fusion of art and fashion.
