Russia Launches 500+ Drones and Missiles at Ukraine as Zelenskyy Pushes for Stronger Support

Date:

Russia fired more than 500 drones and over two dozen missiles at Ukraine overnight, targeting civilian and energy infrastructure, authorities said. The strikes left at least one dead and several injured, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intensified calls for stronger international backing.

According to the Ukrainian air force, the overnight barrage struck mainly central and western regions, hitting power facilities as another winter approaches. Zelenskyy condemned the strikes as “demonstrative,” urging tougher sanctions on Moscow’s war economy.

Despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s push for ceasefire talks, Russia President Vladimir Putin signaled only cautious openness. Speaking in Beijing after meeting Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, and Narendra Modi, Putin said a settlement was possible if “common sense prevails,” but warned Russia would continue military action if diplomacy failed.

Zelenskyy traveled to Denmark for talks with northern European and Baltic leaders, securing $2 billion in U.S.-sourced weapons funded by Europe, with a goal to expand the program by $1 billion monthly. He also met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, where European leaders discussed future security guarantees for Ukraine. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte confirmed alliance involvement in shaping commitments.

The EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas accused China of supplying Russia with up to 80% of dual-use imports, enabling its war effort. Pyongyang, meanwhile, has sent troops and ammunition, further deepening Russia’s reliance on its Asian partners.

Looking Ahead

As Russia continues its massive aerial campaigns and Ukraine rallies European support, the prospect of meaningful peace talks remains uncertain. With winter looming and frontline fighting intensifying, Kyiv’s strategy is to sustain pressure through expanded military aid and international unity.
