Iran-Israel war: Iran has unleashed its ‘deadliest’ missile, the Sejjil-2 as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched its latest wave of strikes on US military bases in the Middle East on Sunday.
The Sejjil-2, dubbed the ‘dancing missile’ for its high-maneuverability, wreaked devastation in Israel during last year’s 12-day Iran-Israel war, is now unleashing hell on American military bases as it is highly-difficult for conventional missile defense systems to intercept.
What is Iran’s Sejjil-2 missile?
Iran’s second-generation medium-range ballistic missile, the Sejjil‑2 is a two-stage, solid-fuel surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range estimated between 2000 to 2500 kilometers, and a payload capacity of around 700 kg.
Military analysts have dubbed the Sejjil-2 as Iran’s deadliest missile due to its precision and high-maneuverability which allows it evade conventional radar systems, and even penetrate complex air defense networks, including Israel’s famed Iron Dome air defense system, along with other layers of its multi-layered air defenses.
The missile extended range allows it to strike any target deep inside Israel and across the Middle East, as well as some parts of southeastern Europe.
According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Sejjil‑2 missile measures approximately 18 meters (59 feet) in length, 1.25 meters in diameter, and weighs about 23,600kg.

The solid fuel propelled missile is highly mobile and can be readied for launch within a short time, unlike liquid fueled missiles.
Why Sejil-2 is called ‘dancing missile’?
One of the most unique features of Iran’s Sejjil-2 missile is its highly-maneuverable re-entry vehicle, which allows it to evade enemy radars and interceptors by using a swiveling motion while approaching the target at blinding speeds.
The Sejjil-2 caused widespread destruction across Israel during the 12-day Iran-Israel war in June last year, with viral social media videos showing the deadly missile piercing the night sky over Tel Aviv before striking key industrial areas in the Israeli city, causing massive devastation.
The Sejjil-2’s capability to evade advanced air defense systems like Israel’s famed Iron Dome have earned it the moniker ‘dancing missile’, due to its serpentine motion while evading interceptors.
