Government allocates 4.5/- billion for water-supply in 6 Musoma villages

Residents of Mugango and Tegeruka Wards in Musoma Rural District, Mara Region are set to receive reliable tap water through a new project worth 4.5bn/-. The project will cover three villages within Mugango Ward and three villages within Tegeruka Ward, providing access to clean and safe water for the residents.

Project to Provide Clean Water for Six Villages

Previously excluded from the Mugango-Kiabakari-Butiama water project worth 71.5bn/-, have received 4.5bn/- from the government for the construction of water distribution infrastructure. The project is set to commence soon, with a contractor already obtained for the construction.

Musoma Rural Member of Parliament, Prof Sospeter Muhongo, expressed his joy over this project, calling it an Easter present for the residents of the two wards. He thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued efforts to provide clean and safe water across the country. The signing ceremony for the project will take place at Mayani Village in Tegeruka Ward, with various party and government leaders expected to attend.

Government Prioritizes Water Sector

The government considers the water sector as a priority area, with a significant amount of money being channeled towards water projects countrywide. In line with the 3rd Five-Year Development Plan, the government is committed to improving access to clean and safe water and sanitation.

Key interventions include strengthening supply infrastructures for clean and safe water, establishing and strengthening Community Based Water Supply Organisations (CBWSOs), promoting appropriate technologies for further treatment of effluent and sludge for recycling and re-use purposes, constructing strategic water reservoirs, promoting and supporting management, development and equitable utilization of trans-boundary water resources, strengthening conservation and protection programs of water resources and water sources, strengthening water resources research systems, and establishing programs and mechanisms for management, monitoring, and assessment of water and wastewater quality.

The new project in Mugango and Tegeruka Wards is a result of achieving the government’s commitment to improving access to clean and safe water across the country.
