Fashion Designer Vivienne Tam Blurs Lines Between Real and Virtual With NFT-Inspired Collection

Date:

Fashion designer Vivienne Tam has made a splash in the world of fashion by integrating non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into her latest collection, “Weaving into the Metaverse,” which was presented during New York Fashion Week. Tam’s unique style has always blended Eastern and Western aesthetics, but this season, she drew inspiration from futuristic cities, gaming, and web3 technology. Her designs include pictograms of ancient Chinese characters mixed with popular NFTs such as Bored Ape Yacht Club PFPs, Doodles images, CryptoPunks, and Meebits.

The fashion designer aims to bridge the physical and virtual worlds with her latest collection. To achieve this, Tam showcased her collection both in the physical world and in the metaverse using web3 real estate platform Propy. The virtual experience mirrored the physical venue, complete with a red carpet, catwalk, backstage, and even views of the New York Cityscape. Live DJs and hosts were present in both the virtual and physical spaces. Tam’s show was supported by Hong Kong-based web3 incubator CyberPort, of which she is a member.

Tam’s collection was not the first to be showcased in the metaverse, as American brand BCBGMaxAzria and celebrity stylist Maeve Reilly presented their collaborative collection in Decentraland last week.

It is worth noting that Tam has a history of integrating NFTs into her designs. For her Spring Summer 2023 fashion collection, the designer incorporated CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and CyberKongz imagery.

Tam’s use of NFTs in fashion represents a growing trend in the industry. NFTs are unique digital assets that can be used to represent anything from artwork to fashion designs. They are becoming increasingly popular in the fashion industry as a way to create rare and collectible pieces that can be verified on the blockchain. As NFTs continue to gain momentum, it will be interesting to see how other fashion designers follow in Tam’s footsteps and integrate these digital assets into their collections.
