Drone Attack Hits Russia’s Volgograd Energy Infrastructure, Causing Blackouts 🇷🇺

Date:

Russia reported that its Volgograd region experienced blackouts in four separate districts following an attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on a crucial power substation. The specific target was a power substation situated near the Balashovskaya high-voltage transmission line. Officials from the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that air defense forces “repelled a massive UAV attack” across the region, which borders both Kazakhstan and the Rostov region.

The successful strike on the energy infrastructure led to local blackouts in several settlements. Emergency repair teams were immediately dispatched to the affected areas, and efforts to restore power were underway shortly after the attack was neutralized. Russian officials provided no details regarding the origin of the drones, but Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy and military infrastructure far from the frontline as part of its strategy of attrition.

The attack underscores the growing vulnerability of Russia’s critical civilian infrastructure, particularly its remote energy network, to long-range drone strikes. Such strikes aim to disrupt industrial operations, create public inconvenience, and drain resources away from military efforts toward defensive and repair work across the vast country.
