Delhi High Court orders Rajpal Yadav to surrender; actor fails to pay Rs 9 crore dues in cheque bounce cases

Date:

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav directed to appear before prison authorities by February 4 in light of his conviction in cheque bounce cases. The Delhi High Court commented that although Rajpal Yadav committed to return the complainant the said amount of money, he did not comply with the tribunal’s direction.

Court criticises repeated breaches of undertakings

As per PTI, Justice Sharma said, “Such violations by the orders of Justice Rajpal Yadav cannot be ignored any longer.” Justice Raj feels that the trial court made the actor incur a liability of Rs 1.35 crore in each case of the seven cases filed against him by M/s Murali Projects. The trial court also passed another order emphasizing that the amount which was deposited with the Registrar General in favor of the complainant should be released.

Rajpal Yadav’s outstanding dues remain unpaid

In its order, the court mentioned that two demand drafts of Rs 75 lakh were deposited in October 2025, while Rs 9 crore remained unpaid. “Despite repeatedly giving assurances and seeking indulgence of this court, the petitioner has failed to comply with the orders passed from time to time. There is no justification to continue leniency in a case where the petitioner himself admitted the liability,” the court said. Rajpal Yadav is now required to surrender to serve the sentence awarded by the trial court.

Background of the case

The order came on the revision pleas of Rajpal Yadav and his wife challenging the 2019 order of the sessions court affirming their conviction by the magisterial court in April 2018. The magisterium court had sentenced Rajpal to six months imprisonment. The lawyer of the actor had stated that the cheque payments were in connection with a film, which was a flop at the box office and the money was lost. The High Court had earlier temporarily suspended the sentence in 2024, provided Rajpal Yadav made genuine efforts to settle the matter.
