Deadly Tornado Strikes Southern Brazil, Killing Five and Injuring Over 130 🇧🇷

A powerful and destructive tornado swept through the municipality of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, located in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, resulting in at least five fatalities and leaving approximately 130 people injured. The tornado, which struck on Friday, November 7, 2025, caused widespread devastation in the town of 14,000 residents. The twister was part of a larger system of severe storms affecting the region, with weather authorities issuing alerts for Paraná and neighboring states like Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

The destructive winds were estimated to have reached speeds between 180 and 250 kilometers per hour (110–155 mph). This force was strong enough to overturn cars, flatten trees, damage masonry on homes, and destroy entire homes in the urban area, with early reports suggesting around 80% of the urban area sustained some form of damage. Initial reports from local rescue agencies indicated that 30 people suffered serious or moderate injuries, while approximately 100 had minor injuries.Local authorities immediately activated civil-defense efforts, mobilizing security forces to monitor affected cities and assist with rescue and damage assessment amid widespread infrastructure disruption. Paraná Governor Ratinho Junior publicly affirmed that security forces were on high alert and monitoring the situation.
