Clydebank’s hero: eco dog Border Collie Trinny

Date:

Trinny, a five-year-old Border Collie from Clydebank, has been busy keeping her local park clean by picking up litter while out on walks with her owner, Alanna Jackson. Trinny has become somewhat of a local celebrity after Alanna shared on social media a video of dog’s clearing up litter.

Keeping the Park Clean

Alanna said that Trinny first started picking up litter during walks because there was a lot of rubbish in the park. “Just from her naturally picking things up when she was out on walks, I’ve then shaped the behaviour into her putting it into the bin”, Alanna said.

Since then, Trinny has become a pro at picking up litter and disposing of it in the nearest bin. Alanna hopes that Trinny’s efforts will inspire others to keep their local areas clean and free from litter. “If a wee something like this can have a positive influence and get people to get a bit more involved and look after the local areas again, then great,” she said.

A Clever Canine

Trinny’s litter picking skills have not gone unnoticed, as she has been awarded an expert level certificate by the global dog training organisation Do More With Your Dog, for performing numerous tricks. Alanna believes that other pets can learn eco-friendly habits with the right training and guidance. “There’s no reason why you can’t have a wee bit of fun with it and shape it into some different behaviours. You can get them cleaning up their own toy box, putting their toys away at home. Who knows, maybe we’ll have our own pack of litter picking dogs!” she said.

Trinny’s example has also helped raise awareness about the impact of littering on the environment and encouraged children to think twice about littering. “Obviously from the point of view of children seeing it and being inspired to do something, pick up after themselves, it’s great and they all love it, they get really excited seeing her,” Alanna said.

Trinny’s efforts have not only help keep her local park clean, but also inspire others to take responsibility for their environment.
