Ghanaian Optometrist Dr. John Kwesi Assan Becomes Youngest African Fellow Of American Academy Of Optometry

Dr. John Kwesi Assan, a Ghanaian optometrist who completed the University of Cape Coast’s Doctor of Optometry program, has received the honorary title of Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), making him the youngest optometrist in Africa to achieve this feat.

The award was presented at the American Academy of Optometry’s 2022 Annual Meeting, held in San Diego, California, USA, from October 20–29, 2022 and served as the organization’s centennial celebration.

The highest levels of professional competency are used to assess American Academy of Optometry fellows. For patients and colleagues, the initials “FAAO” (Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry) following a professional’s name denotes that they have satisfied the strict requirements for Fellowship.

Dr. Assan reaffirmed his dedication to continuous learning and stated that he is steadfast in his desire to pursue a fruitful career as a clinician-scientist.
