Ukraine is on the threshold of becoming a full member of the IFAD

Date:

Membership in IFAD will allow Ukraine to secure access to funding and resources to support its agricultural sector.

IFAD’s main objective is to eradicate rural poverty in developing countries.

The main means of IFAD interaction with member countries is through the provision of low-interest loans or grants for the development and implementation of rural poverty alleviation projects, which are administered by the respective Government.

Loans are made to Fund member States from developing countries on concessional, transitional and normal terms for approved projects and programmes. Loan conditions vary according to the borrower’s level of return (GNP per capita).

IFAD membership will provide Ukraine with access to a range of resources and funding. This includes access to grants and loans, technical expertise, and capacity-building programs. It also provides Ukraine with a platform to engage in policy dialogue and share experiences and best practices with other countries.

On 15 February, at the annual session, the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) adopted a decision regarding the membership of Ukraine.

Ukraine will become a full member of the Fund from the moment of submission to the Secretary-General of the United Nations of the instrument of accession to the Treaty

Membership of Ukraine in the Fund provides an opportunity for Ukrainian agricultural producers to obtain affordable financial resources, supporting the agrarian sector of Ukraine and the international image of our state as one of the largest producers and exporters of agricultural products on the world market and an active participant in the global efforts to combat hunger, as well as strengthening the political dialogue and support of the IFAD in international political forums.

By becoming a full member of IFAD, Ukraine will be able to capitalize on its agricultural potential and secure additional funding and resources to support the sector.

The Ukrainian government has already taken steps to ensure that the country is ready to become a full member of IFAD. This includes introducing a new agricultural financing law and committing to a number of reforms. These reforms are aimed at improving the efficiency of the sector and will help Ukraine to become more competitive in the global market. Full membership in IFAD would give the country access to additional resources and financing to support its agricultural sector, which would help the country become more competitive in the world market
