Uganda: President Museveni’s son banned from Twitter

Date:

Following controversial tweets, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni has been banned from using Twitter after he had tweeted suggesting that it would take him and his army not “two weeks” to take over the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

His father, who is the president and has ruled Uganda since 1986 said his son will no longer use the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter and he will no longer tweet about the country’s political and governance issues.

“He’s going to leave Twitter. We have had this discussion. Twitter is not a problem. The problem is what you tweet. Talking about other countries and Uganda’s politics is something he should not do and will not do,” said President Museveni.

The President has since publically condemned his son’s actions and has apologized to Kenyans. He also blamed his son for “interfering in the affairs” of Kenya. He has also removed his son from his position as the country’s Commander of The Ground Forces. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has apologized and said “I never had any problem with Afande Ruto (the Kenyan president)”
