Muscat (Oman), June 23 (ANI): Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker HE Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Muscat on Monday as part of their official visit to Oman.

Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi received the Iranian delegation and extended a warm welcome upon their arrival.

In a post on X, Oman’s Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi received Iranian Parliament Speaker Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and his accompanying delegation in the presence of Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during their official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

According to the ministry, the leaders held discussions on bilateral cooperation between Oman and Iran, regional developments, the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.

The ministry added that both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and good-neighbourly relations between Oman and Iran. They exchanged views on the latest regional developments and emphasized the importance of using the current diplomatic momentum to support peace efforts, promote de-escalation, and maintain regional stability.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to international law, good neighbourliness, and enhancing opportunities for de-escalation. They also stressed the importance of ensuring the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and international waterways.

“The meeting was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Hinai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Musa Farhang, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Sultanate of Oman, and several officials from both countries,” the ministry added.

Oman’s Foreign Minister, in a post on X, welcomed the Iranian delegation and reaffirmed his commitment to upholding international law.

“Welcomed Iran’s Speaker of Parliament HE Dr. Ghalibaf and FM Dr. Araghchi in Muscat this evening. Constructive discussions were held on the recent Iran-US MoU, especially regarding the Strait of Hormuz paragraph. We reaffirmed our commitment to international law and ensuring safe passage,” he wrote.

The development comes as Iran and the United States have established a direct communication line aimed at preventing incidents and misunderstandings in the Strait of Hormuz. Mediators Qatar and Pakistan announced the arrangement after the first round of high-level talks conducted under a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The statement noted, “In addition, a communication line between the parties has been established for the period mentioned in paragraph 5 of the MoU to avoid incidents and miscommunication, with the objective of ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.” (ANI)
