Egypt Seeks to Expand Advanced Technology and AI Governance Cooperation with Japan 🇪🇬🇯🇵

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he highlighted Egypt’s ambition to broaden cooperation with Tokyo. The primary focus of the discussion was the expansion of their strategic partnership to include advanced technological industries, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and related governance systems. This signaling is part of Egypt’s sustained effort to accelerate its national digital transformation and reinforce its regional leadership in tech-and-innovation.

During the meeting, Madbouly congratulated Takaichi on becoming Japan’s first female prime minister and expressed appreciation for Japan’s significant contributions to major national projects, notably the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and the ongoing partnership in education. Egypt specifically aims to leverage Japan’s distinguished expertise in AI and technology integration to transform key sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture, as outlined in Egypt’s own National AI Strategy 2025–2030.The two leaders affirmed their shared commitment to explore new avenues for economic collaboration, including expanding trilateral cooperation involving the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) in African countries. This strategic dialogue demonstrates Egypt’s external strategy of engaging leading global technology nations to secure expertise and investment for its knowledge-based economy.
