President Murmu Approves Winter Session of Parliament from December 1–19, 2025

Date:

President Draupadi Murmu has given her official approval for the Government’s proposal to hold the Winter Session of the Parliament of India from December 1 to December 19, 2025. The nineteen-day session, which runs for three full weeks, is a constitutionally mandated period that serves as the final legislative session of the calendar year and is crucial for completing pending legislative business. The approval of the schedule was formally communicated through the Parliament Secretariat.

The defined session window is critical for India’s governance, providing businesses, citizens, and media with clear expectations regarding the scrutiny of government policies and the legislative agenda. Key items expected during this session include the passage of several bills previously introduced in the Monsoon Session, and debates on the country’s current economic situation, particularly in light of the recently reported multi-year low in consumer inflation.

Traditionally, the Winter Session is also where the government makes major policy announcements and presents supplementary demands for grants, which involve seeking parliamentary approval for additional government spending beyond the amounts allocated in the main budget. The session provides the Opposition with a vital platform to question the executive, fulfilling Parliament’s role as the supreme deliberative and legislative body.
