UAE Launches National Orchestra as Part of Cultural Push, Commences Rehearsals in Abu Dhabi

Date:

The UAE National Orchestra (UAENO) has officially begun rehearsals in Abu Dhabi, marking a major step in the nation’s push to build a dynamic and enduring cultural institution. The orchestra was established under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is chaired by Minister of State Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi. The ensemble comprises 70 full-time musicians and 30 part-time choir members, selected following an extensive national and international audition process that attracted over 3,200 applicants.

The orchestra’s mission is to be a national institution that reflects the UAE’s identity, diversity, and global outlook. Under the artistic direction of Amine Kouider, the UAENO will develop a distinctive sound that purposefully blends Arabic and Western musical traditions, aiming to honor the nation’s musical heritage while embracing modern multiculturalism. The organization has committed to a long-term strategy that includes capacity-building programs for emerging local talent. The inaugural season, which is expected to officially launch in Q1 2026 (though performances may begin sooner), is planned to include concerts in all seven Emirates—a first for the country—to ensure that orchestral music becomes a shared national experience. The goal is to connect communities, celebrate national creativity, and enhance the UAE’s position as a global cultural center.
