India Celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Sardar Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary

Date:

India is observing Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on October 31, 2025, marking the pivotal 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the nation’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. The celebrations honour his monumental role as the “Iron Man of India” for successfully integrating over 560 princely states into the Union of India following Independence, laying the foundational stone for a unified modern republic. This year’s observance is particularly grand, emphasizing the enduring spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India) and Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

The main event, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, features a large-scale, Republic Day-style parade. The parade includes 16 marching contingents from various State Police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), an aerial display by the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, and a unique segment showcasing indigenous Indian dog breeds from the Border Security Force. In a symbolic gesture, the Guard of Honour for the Prime Minister is being led by a woman officer.Beyond the main parade, nationwide programs are engaging citizens, particularly the youth, in fostering patriotism and social harmony. These include the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon held across major cities and the launch of the Sardar@150 Unity March, a multi-phase campaign spanning October 31 to December 6, featuring district-level foot marches, cultural showcases by 900 artists under the theme “Unity in Diversity,” and developmental activities to reinforce the spirit of national cohesion.
