Russia-India Forum “TIME” in Kazan Boosts Regional Partnership, Yields 19 Agreements

Date:

The inaugural business forum, “TIME: Russia – India. Mutual Efficiency,” concluded in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, with a strong focus on forging deeper regional cooperation and signing 19 new agreements across various sectors. The event successfully convened 93 experts from business and science and attracted approximately 3,500 participants from 35 regions of Russia and 22 Indian administrative divisions. This turnout highlights the momentum behind a decentralized, multipolar model of engagement between the two nations, which also saw Kazan host the BRICS Summit in 2024.

Tatarstan’s Head, Rustam Minnikhanov, emphasized the Republic’s eagerness to expand its existing cooperation, citing local experience with Indian partners and welcoming India’s plan to open a Consulate General in Kazan. The forum addressed critical themes including investments and finance, IT, medicine, oil and gas chemistry, and defense. This mutual focus is driven by India’s massive market potential, which Ambassador Vinay Kumar stated could soon see its middle class exceed 800 million people. To facilitate international trade, the Indian government plans to create “one-stop” international corridors, which will streamline procedures by industry. The Russian side is keen to leverage the Indian market, which is “dozens of times larger” than its domestic one, to increase exports of its locally produced goods. This joint effort to break down information barriers and build robust economic corridors, showcased at the companion exhibition, is seen as a key precursor to larger strategic moves ahead of Russian President Putin’s anticipated visit to India in December.
