BRI Seminar Delegates from Egypt Tour Fujian Shipbuilding Industry

Date:

Egyptian participants in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) seminar visited Fujian Boyang Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd this week to explore China’s maritime and shipbuilding operations. The delegation, part of the “Seminar on Capacity Enhancement in Investment Attraction for BRI Countries,” toured the dockyard, examined production lines, and learned how technological advancements and supportive policies have enabled the shipyard to integrate into global supply chains.

The seminar in Fujian brought officials from Egypt, Namibia, Guyana, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, and South Africa together to study China’s strategies for creating competitive investment climates. For the Egyptian delegation, the visit offered valuable insights into the shipbuilding and port services sectors, which are central to their national and international trade, especially given Egypt’s strategic position along the Suez Canal. Observing the scale and efficiency of Fujian’s shipyards provided a practical understanding of potential collaboration areas in shipping, logistics, and broader maritime industries.

The site visit complemented lectures and workshops, including sessions on China’s business environment and sectoral reforms supporting renewable energy, new energy vehicles, and cross-border e-commerce. Organisers emphasised that combining field visits with academic discussions allows delegates to contextualise China’s industrial strategies for application in their own countries. The tour also highlighted Fujian’s role as a key hub in the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, illustrating the importance of shipbuilding for technological innovation, employment, and investment attraction.
