Sheikh Mansour Attends GCC Summit in Kuwait, Calls for Gaza Ceasefire

On December 1, 2024, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, arrived in Kuwait City to attend the 45th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit. Representing President Sheikh Mohamed, Sheikh Mansour was warmly welcomed by Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, and other dignitaries.

The summit brought together leaders from the GCC to discuss regional and international issues, focusing on mutual interests and cooperation.

A Call for Peace in Gaza

In his opening statement, Sheikh Meshal called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, urging the international community to protect civilians, open safe corridors, and deliver urgent humanitarian aid. He also criticized the double standards in applying international laws, which undermine the region’s security and stability.

Sheikh Meshal expressed optimism about the recently brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, stating that it could help reduce escalation in the region.

He reaffirmed the GCC’s unwavering support for Palestine, emphasizing the need to end the Israeli occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions.

UAE’s Commitment to GCC Unity

Sheikh Mansour expressed gratitude to Kuwait for hosting the summit, emphasizing the importance of strengthening joint Gulf cooperation to achieve the interests of GCC member states.

He reiterated the UAE’s dedication to the integration process among GCC nations and invited leaders to the UAE for the 46th GCC Summit in Abu Dhabi.

Accompanying Sheikh Mansour were several key UAE ministers and officials, including:

  • Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology
  • Dr. Amna Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment

GCC Leaders and Regional Diplomacy

The summit saw participation from prominent Gulf leaders, including:

  • Prince Salman bin Hamad, Crown Prince of Bahrain
  • Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
  • Sayyed Fahad bin Mahmoud Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister
  • Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar

The leaders discussed key regional issues, focusing on peace, security, and economic cooperation. The role of Qatar, Egypt, and the US in mediating the Gaza ceasefire was commended, with the summit highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to ensure regional stability.

The GCC Summit serves as a platform to enhance regional cooperation, addressing pressing issues such as humanitarian aid, political rights, and sustainable development. Sheikh Mansour’s participation underscores the UAE’s active role in promoting unity among GCC nations while addressing critical challenges in the region.
